Overview

Richard Rattner has more than thirty years of experience in real estate law, with specialties in real estate acquisition, sale and loan transactions, land use development, zoning, and corporate law. 

Mr. Rattner is a member of the Oakland County Bar Association, the State Bar of Michigan, the American Bar Association and the Fellows of the American Bar Foundation.  He is an immediate past member of the governing Council of the Real Property Law Section (RPLS) of the State Bar of Michigan and an active participant in many of its committees including Zoning and Land Use Planning, former co-chair of the Continuing Legal Education Committee, the RPLS Membership Committee, and is the current co-chair of the newly formed RPLS Academy committee.  He has also served as a volunteer arbitrator for the Attorney Grievance Commission.

Mr. Rattner is an adjunct professor at Wayne State University Law School, where he teaches “Developing the Commercial Real Estate Project.”  He is a frequent lecturer on a variety of real estate related topics at continuing legal education seminars, for real estate brokers and other business organizations.  He has recently been a presenter at events sponsored by Michigan’s Institute for Continuing Legal Education, the International Council of Shopping Centers, the Michigan Association of Planning, and the Real Property Law Section of the State Bar of Michigan.  Mr. Rattner’s most recent article is “After Koontz: Practical Considerations, Real Implications,” Michigan Real Property Review, Winter 2014.

Mr. Rattner is a past chairman of the Alumni Association of the University of Michigan, and a past member of the University of Michigan’s Advisory Board for Intercollegiate Athletics.  He is frequently recognized by his peers for legal excellence and by ranking organizations, most recently honored to be named a “Leading Lawyer,” and included in Best Lawyers®, which named him “Lawyer of the Year” in the Detroit area for litigation - land use and zoning in 2012 and 2014, in 2016 he was named “Lawyer of the Year” for land use and zoning law in the newly designated “Troy Metro Area,” which generally covers Oakland and Macomb Counties, and in 2017 he was named “Lawyer of the Year” for litigation-real estate in the Troy Metro Area.  He is also a member of “Super Lawyers,” and is included as one of “dBusiness” Magazine’s Top Lawyers in Metro Detroit.
